Conservation: We have been active in the conservation field for last decade and have tried to preserver the natural heritage, and helped in maintaining the bio-diversity of the region (Doon Valley, Mussooire and Saharanpur Siwalik Hills). Our team which is headed by Dr. Y.P.S. Pundir includes learned scientists from institutes and colleges with life sciences background. After surveying the important local species, we found that more than 30 species of endemic and other flowering plants (trees, shrubs and herbs) which sometime back were quite common in this region, but in past 50 years, have become extremely rare, or facing extinction. Few of them have almost disappeared from their localities. Out of these, we have marked twelve species, three endemic (Pittosporum eriocarpum, Catamixis baccharoides, and Eremostachys superba) and nine others (Acacia pseudo-eburnea, Terminalia alata var. nepalensis. Habenaria longifolia, Olax nana, Venda roxburghii, Ficus ponifera, Carallia integerrima, Helixanthera legustrina and Sophora mollis) which need immediate attention for their conservation in situ and exsitu.. Fertile plants (tree and shrubs) of some species were marked and available seeds were collected which were sown in the nursery and later one year old seedlings were planted in the reserve forest area. A large number of villagers were contacted and the importance of these species was discussed with them. The results of the discussion were quite promising.
Education: We have realized that it is important to educate the young people if the conservation efforts are to be taken forward and for this an initiative in learning has been launched which is being headed by Mr. Aditya Pundir who has background in, Green Education, Environment Reporting, Film making and Multimedia Software Development. He is the project director and has worked on more than 50 multimedia projects with diverse Industries like Education, Defense, Manufacturing and Services. He has been associated with environment conservation efforts since last decade.
Our objective of dissemination of environmental learning we are trying to achieve by building a multilingual website with easy to understand instructions in multimedia format and this will be supplemented by conducting seminars and workshops in schools.
